Wakankar scores upset wins to win double crown at Baba Rodrigues and Sons ITF S200 Seniors tennis championships.
Pune, May 8:Pune player Mandar Wakankar registered upset wins to claim a double crown winning the singles and the doubles title in the Mens 40 plus event at the Baba Rodrigues and Sons ITF S200 Seniors championships which is being played at the MSLTA School of Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis complex.
Former national ranked player Mandar Wakankar seeded fourth upset top seeded Aditya Khanna 6-4, 6-4 to claim the title and 200 ITF points , later Mandar teamed up with Kamlesh Shukla of Lucknow to upset the top seeded team of Swarandeep Singh Dhodi and Aditya Khanna 6-4, 6-2 to claim the title and a memorable double crown in his home city
Japanese Mayuka Sakai and Arti Ganesh won the titles in the womens 35 and 45 singles And also combined to win the womens 35 doubles title
Mandar Wakankar and Mayuka Sakai were adjudged the best players of the tournament and awarded the Narendra Sopal memorial award instituted in memory of the Late Jt Director of sports Narendra Sopal a keen tennis player
The prizes were given away at the hands sponsor of the event Baba Rodrigues, Mr. D S Rama Rao Jt tournament director and ITF White Badge referee Vaishali Shekatkar
