Manas Dhamne too good for top seed Rushil Khosla in Asian under-14 tennis
NEW DELHI, JUNE 7:
Manas Dhamne outplayed top seed Rushil Khosla and put himself in line for a double crown as he won the doubles title with Arunava Majumder in the boys section of the Sports Boulevard Asian under-14 tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Friday.
Manas led 6-2, 5-0 when Rushil retired. In the doubles final, Manas partnered Arunava Majumder to outclass Harsh Fogaat and Samar Malhotra for the loss of four games.
Interestingly, Arunava also has a chance for a double crown as he made the singles final by beating Omaansh Chaudhary Saharia 6-3, 7-5.
In the girls section, Shruti Ahlawat overcame a tricky start to outclass Chandni Srinivasan 6-3, 6-0. It was Chandni who led 3-0 at the start, even as Shruti lost confidence over the line calls by the chair umpire, called the referee Somnath Manna, only to be told firmly that the umpire was right. Regaining her composure and stepping up her game thereafter, Shruti, hit strong to overwhelm her opponent.
Shruti also won the doubles title in partnership with Anannya Bhatia, beating Malshika Kuramu and Chandni Srinivasan 10-7 in the super tie-break.
In the singles final, Shruti will face Nandini Dixit who stroked smoothly to get past Saumrita Verma in straight sets.
