Arjun Kadhe, Saketh Myneni, Karunuday Singh in semifinals
Arjun Kadhe further emphasised his growing confidence as he beat the former Asian junior champion Nam Hoang Ly of Vietnam 7-6(3), 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the Salt Lake in Kolkata on Thursday.
Arjun did drop serve twice but handled the match competently by breaking back in the 12th game of the first set, and winning an early break in the second, handling the climax in both the sets with a strong game.
In the semifinal, Arjun will have a good chance to further test his game against Saketh Myneni who breezed past second Sasi Kumar Mukund 6-3, 6-3.
Arjun had beaten Saketh in their only previous meeting in the professional circuit in the Chennai Challenger.
Karunuday Singh fought his way past the national championship finalist, Suraj Prabodh, in three sets. He will face the top seed Carlos Boluda-Purkiss of Spain.
Arjun Kadhe combined strongly with Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the doubles semifinals to tame the national champions Haadin Bava and Aryan Goveas for the loss of four games. The duo will face Carlos Boluda-Purkiss and Nam Hoang Ly in the final.
