Thandi falters in finals, Cristian claims double crown at $25000+ Pune Open ITF women’s championships
Pune, November 11: Jaqueline Adina Cristian of Romania claimed a memorable double crown adding the singles title to her doubles title at the $25000+ Pune Open ITF women’s championships organized by NS Sports Academy under the auspices of AITA , MSLTA and PMDTA and being played the MSLTA School of tennis, Balewadi
In a well contested finals the second seeded Jaqueline Adina Cristian of Romania stopped the winning run of third seeded Indian Karman Kaur Thandi 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in a 1 hour and 48 minutes , Jaqueline who was a quarter finalist in the last edition took the first set in 30 minutesbreaking Thandi in the 4th game , in the second set lasting 52 minutes Thandi unleashed a series of winners to claim the set 6-1 and level set scores. As the match looked event the 19 year old Romanian ranked 254 took just 25 minutes breaking Thandi in the 1,3,and 5th games
The winner of the event got $3900, trophy and 60 WTA points, the runners up got $2590, trophy and 36 WTA points,
The prizes were given away at the hands of Former IPS officer Vikram Bokey and Kothrud MLA Prof. Medha, Kulkarni, Mr. Sunder Iyer Hon Sec of MSLTA, Tournament Diretor Navnath Shete, Organizing Secretary Pune Open Ashwin Girme, Member of Pune Open Foundation Shivaji Choudhari, Member of Pune Open Foundation Sameer Bhambare and ITF Supervisor Mrs. Sheetal Iyer were present on the occasion.
